Over 39,000 dogs sterilized In Harayana

 

CHANDIGARH: To tackle the menace of stray dogs, anti-rabies vaccination has been administered to 1,71,764 canines in Hisar, Bhiwani, Fatehabad, Jind and Sirsa districts in the past one year. Besides, 39,033 dogs were sterilized in these five districts during the same period.

This was disclosed in a meeting of state level monitoring-cum-coordination committee held under the chairmanship of chief secretary D S Dhesion Friday to review progress under the Animal Component of National Rabies Control Programme. The programme is being implemented by the Union health and family welfare ministry through the Animal Welfare Board of India.

In the initial stage, the sterilization and vaccination programme had been launched in Hisar division comprising five districts. An agreement was signed with non-governmental organisation Humane Society International (India) for the purpose. The agreement is valid till March 31, 2017. A budget provision of Rs 30 crore had been made for implementation of the National Rabies Control Programme in the state.
