Mrs Maneka Gandhi went to Hyderabad yesterday and inspected the dog pounds. There are positive reports that she has intervened and has proposed to the activists of Hyderabad, who were feeling helpless, that they should form NGOs and take over these pounds along with local PFA. The NGOs and PFA would then do ABC in these so called pounds, which are right now centers of cruelty being run by GHMC. This is a lawful and a superb proposal/ intervention, as once the pounds are distributed amongst the NGOs monitoring would be very transparent and cruelty would reduce manifold. Distribution of power and decentralization of functions is the key to successful operations.
So now it is up to the activists of Hyderabad to take the next initiative and form these NGOs and really volunteer to go and look after these pounds. These are the first signs of real improvement. Now is the time for constructive participation.
The most important part of this whole movement is the contribution made by the 8000 plus people who send emails and protest letters to different people, agencies involved in this. This was confirmed by many sources that the campaign by the various organizations and people made a difference. This participation has led to this change, apart from Mrs Gandhi’s intervention.
So people all across the globe need to support each other and sign those petitions and promote those campaigns which local activists and animal lovers organize for the helpless and speechless animals of their regions.
