URGENT & TIME SENSITIVE PRESS RELEASE

Gurgaon Police Unresponsive despite advance information While Constitution of India & the Law will be publicly abused on Republic Day

Gurgaon, 25th Jan 2012: Gurgaon’s animals suffer brutality & torture & several laws including sections of Indian Penal Code & the Constitution of India are set to be violated openly on Republic Day 2012.

Early on 24th January 2012 People for Animals representatives met Police Commissioner- KK Sindhu with a written complaint & evidence of criminal activity planned on 26th January 2012.

The complaint was directed by him  to DCP-East- Maheshwar Dayal to act.

The 2 officers were met individually in person & given written complaints & evidence as well with names & numbers of the criminals.

  • Violation of section 428 & 429 under the Indian Penal Code(cognizable offence)
  • Violation of section 11- Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act
  • Violation of section 9 & 45- Against Public Gambling & Violation of Public Gambling Act-Section 3
  • Section 51(a) Constitution of India

PFA offices in New Delhi extensively followed up with DCP-East personally; he refused to respond & was indifferent . 48 hours have gone by & the DCP-East office has not acted on an issue which was a matter of minutes. This is indirect patronage of criminals, cruelty to animals, dereliction of duty & contempt for the law as well as the Constitution by public servants.

Dog fighting/dog baiting is not only illegal & against several sections of the law as detailed above, it is also an extremely cruel & in-human barbaric activity.

We urge the media to question these officials & prevent this barbarity of which they are fully aware.

It is unfortunate that the highest levels of Police demonstrate such callousness while professing to uphold the law in what is touted as the “Millennium City”.
