Dear Animal Brigadier

The Indian camel, is the pride of Rajasthan and thousands of poor families are dependant on it for their travel across the desert. However, this iconic animal is disappearing before our eyes owing to illegal slaughter and smuggling. In Rajasthan the camel has become expensive and rare with less than 50,000 animals and has been declared an endangered species by the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN).

Animal activists across the country are working to protect the animal. It is time we step up the fight!

Recently, 61 camels were caught at Kishanganj Police Station, Bihar being illegal transported for slaughter. On December 5, 2016, Dhyan Foundation got the release order of 61 Camels (out of 61 Camels 1 died in the police custody only) to rehabilitate them at a shelter in Rajasthan (their natural habitat)

However, on 14th Dec a stay was put on the release order, preventing the animal activists from taking the camels back to safety. It seems like a nexus between the authorities and the criminals, as Dhyan Foundation was not allowed representation in the court and the judgement was passed without their knowledge on baseless grounds.

KNOW THE LAW

It is illegal to slaughter and transport for slaughter camels. As per Supreme Court directions, until the disposal of the case, animals should be in custody of animal shelter
