Hi there, My name is Smita Joshi and I am an animal lover and animal welfareworker from New Delhi, India. The following website has information onmy personal work: www.dogsneedhelp.com For the past two years we have taken the spay/neuter camps to a smalltown of Almora in North India.

In 2009 we managed tosterilize 80 dogs (mainly females) and in 2010 we sterilized 76 dogs.I have now been approached by animal lovers of other small towns. Itcosts a total of about Rs. 50,000 – 70,000 to organize a 5-7 daysspay/neuter and vaccination camp for stray dogs in any of the smalltowns of India.

I organize 2 vets and 2 para vets and 1 catcher tovisit the town. With the help of local animal lover / volunteer pointof contact in that town, we organize pin hole surgery spayingoperations on stray female dogs. We also vaccinate them post theiroperation. We hold them for follow up for 3 days. I am only an individual that works with the help of volunteers andDelhi based vets and non profits to organize these stray dogsterilizations in remote areas; and to take care of as many dogs aspossible. I try and familiarize the residents of that area to thedog(s) living around them, trying to make community pets out of thestray dogs. I need assistance in raising money towards these remote camps.

Besides Almora and Nainital, I have requests from Indore, Aurangabad, Meerutand Patharjora Tea Garden villages of Darjeeling to organize campsthere. Indore is in dire strait and I have attached the email receivedfrom the Indore based volunteer Mrs. Upreti. She has requested toorganize a camp in Indore in December itself. For Nainital/Almora weare hoping for March – April 2010. For the rest it would be May 2011.The donors can pay directly towards costs and are also most welcome tobe part of the team at the camp and supervize / monitor / watch theprogram.

The donors can also directly pay to the local non profit and/ or to the Delhi vet team. In addition, if any of you can help Mrs. Upreti in any other way, please do get in touch with her. Please come forward. Please help. NGOS being run in indore are just for namesake.they have noambulance or shelter or doctors..as a result of this there is novaccination program for stray animals.this also results in problems intending to dogs with diseases..an instance being a rabied dog wasbeaten to death by the villagers near my place..due to lack ofavailability of proper functional ngos 3. there is no ABC program active over here.official cite theinavailabilty of ngos with shelter facility for the cause..as a resultwhenever the population of dogs rises in an area, the residents callthe indore municipal corporation which picks up the dogs and throwsthem outide indore, in the highways or villages. After having a chatwith the officials the creation of funtional ngos seems no where inthe vicinty.. i shall be highly grateful if you look into this horrific situation. The names of the officials are sited belowanjathanking youyours sincerelymadhulika upreti S.K CHAUHAN(deputy director veterinary services)-9425191384 DR.
