Greetings of the day!

Here is an update on the Kumaon 3-town stray dog birth control and vaccination program that took place in the month of May 2011.

DogsNeedHelp.com is glad to inform you of the successful completion of stray and community dog sterilization and vaccination drive in three towns of Kumaon region, Uttarakhand, India. This was the third year of this camp. It is very important for us as in the absence of stray dog population control, the local municipalities were either rounding up dogs and leaving them in the nearby forest areas to be easy prey for leopards, or killing them brutally by poisoning. From the time we have organized these camps, the municipality has refrained from any cruelty.

First Stop – Almora, Kumaon Region, Uttarakhand – Monday, May 2 to May 8 – 81 dogs operated and vaccinated

Second Stop – Ranikhet – May 9 to May 12 – 120 dogs operated and vaccinated

Third Stop – Nainital – May 13 – May 17 – 29 dogs operated and vaccinated

In addition, free of cost treatment (deworming, wound care, skin infection / mange treatment) provided to all animals brought to the camp. A vet and an assistant team also went to villages around Almora district and provided treatment to cows, goats, sheep, dogs and other animals belonging to those villages.

This was all made possible with the support of the following individuals and organizations – Bhaumik Pashu Seva Samiti & Kamini Kashyap , PFA Nainital team, Happy Foundation and Helen Mahtiani, Priyanka Shah, Shawlinee Chopra, Amit Choudhary, Sanjit Batra, Vaishali DeSarkar, Alps Pharmaceutical Company and the Kumaon Regiment of the Indian Army.

The following veterinarians and their skilled teams provided the manpower support – Dr. Pawan Maheshwari and Dr. Imran (both from Indore), Dr. Rajeev Sharma (from Ganganagar, Rajasthan), Dr. Vijay and Dr. Inder (from Dwarka, New Delhi) and Dr. Bhardwaj from Nainital. The para vet team was arranged and managed by Mangal, and the catching and preparation was done by catcher Veer Singh and helper Sudarshan.
