“Save Humanity,Be Human”
Last one year has been life changing for me, in terms of emotions and my feelings for animals. I don’t
know how it happened but now the main motive for me is to work for welfare of animals. All the credit goes to two stray doggies “Bebo and Jojo” who are very essential part of my life.
About one year back I started noticing a dog (Female Dog) “Bebo” who used to sit outside our home and I suddenly started getting affectionate towards her and started feeding her with milk and bread.
Now when I used to feed her, a black doggie “Jojo” used to see me feeding Bebo with innocent and
expectant eyes of getting some food.
I could not restrain myself and started feeding her with milk as well. I had no job that time so I really
used to feel very helpless, feeding them so little with my limited pocket money.
Luckily I got a job soon after 4/5 months and I started feeding them more. Two more doggies started
coming to me but I could not feed them as they used to beat Bebo and Jojo .So I had to make them
afraid by throwing water on them. My family, my parents were not digesting this all as in our family such an act had never occurred and people used to see me as if I am doing very wrong act. But with quarrel and persuading I continued feeding them .
As the time passed away Bebo had turned so mischievous that whenever she would need food she
came and knocked ………….not knocked……but shaked our door so hard that we had to open up the door each time for her. On the other hand Jojo had a fixed time she used to come at 8.00 or 8.30 pm daily and lay down in our lawn until I come out and feed her with biscuits and milk. She always kept wagging her tail looking at me and used to give her hand again and again to me and didn’t let me go inside the home. I started massaging her and she started laying down in full relaxation mood and used to enjoy it.
Bebo stopped coming to me after mid of October. I suppose another family was feeding her Non
Vegetarian Food. Then on 14 and 16 November’2010 Jojo and Bebo gave birth to puppies 4 and 7
respectively. Jojo gave birth to kids near my home but Bebo gave birth to her kids a little far. I took care of Jojo so well that her health and her kids grown faster .But one day when I returned home I was informed that Bebo had turned so weak that she turned into a skelton. I went out to see her and was shocked to see her state. I was so angry that people living near her did not feed her and how can someone be so cruel that she had 7 kids besides her and no one was even bothered.
I wanted to take care of her so I had to go to feed her a little far and people had problem with this as well. My parents did not like it either. However with daily arguments I managed to save my Bebo. But her kids have remained underdeveloped and the consequences of which they are still bearing.
I really cursed myself not feeding and not caring for her so long. I am a strict vegetarian and do not even use products having a drop of Non Veg or egg. But Bebo had grown so weak and her kids were smaller than a mouse at that time. I started feeding her egg and milk and she recovered after a month or so.
The biggest challenge was to save these kids as in our society so many times were puppies born but each time they were crushed by cars.
Myself with other kind families took care of them, someone took care of their food ,the other took care of saving them from winter while the other made sure they do not get crushed by cars and we managed to save them until 17th February when a kid who was the cutest of all was crushed by a car. She was the “Gappi”. I came to know of it and ran to see if she is alive but she was not. Jojo was standing beside her and was trying to move her with her mouth. When I went there she came towards me looking at me in the hope I will do something.
But Gappi was dead. I cannot ever forget that sight the puppy whom I used to pick daily and used to feed her with milk had no breath left in her. I moved her on the side and her blood was pouring from her head. Just 1 hour ago I had given her milk and had picked her in arms.
Another family was already planning to adopt Gappi in 2/3 days but she was killed by an irresponsible
person . After some moments I left for office and Jojo was still standing near her kid. When I returned from office she was sitting near that place where “Gappi” had died. People from colony told me that she didn’t eat anything the entire day. I gave her milk and somehow she drank it.
The situation started getting worse as these kids grown. People have become very aggressive towards them. Next Day after Gappi’s death MCD picked Bebo and jojo.I was so shattered and I decided with a kind hearted family that we should leave them with an animal care centre. But when we reached they refused to accept them and when I cross argued, I had inquired on phone and you said that you’ll accept the dogs.
They didn’t listen to us. Then happened the biggest mistake not by me but by the ppl who
accompanied me .My father and an uncle who had also been taking care of these kids the way I did.
,being afraid from our colony ppl started leaving 4 of them on the roads. i appealed to them don’t do
this but no one listened. I do not blame them for this as that family is taking care of these kids the most and they are the sole reason that these kids are still alive.
My father realized his mistake and next day went out searching them and found 2 of them. I went again and again and found rest of two but one’s leg was broken. I took her to hospital there an irresponsible doctor said that her leg cannot be recovered as so many days have passed.
However her leg started getting cured itself and now she can walk very easily. I also got back my bebo and jojo being helped by Maneka Gandhi organization. I am happy that I have got them back.
However things are getting difficult day by day as people don’t give a damn that the pups are sitting and some intentionally try to crush them below their car. People lodge complaints, People quarrel with us who are taking care of them .
People misbehave with the kids and throw stones on them and when someone opposes this they just try to be abusive towards them. 2 puppies have been adopted one by a very good hearted caring girl of our colony and the other by a friend of mine. I will adopt one but whats going to happen with others? I am feeding them and will keep on doing this. But there is always problems and arguments coming from my own parents and my colony mates. Shouldn’t there be a place where these innocent animals can find a shelter even when they are not ill or injured? Why people spend thousands of rupees on buying a big dog when there are several
homeless innocent creatures being ruined on the roads.
