Dear Friends,

My apologies for not sending you updates. Honestly there is not much to share. The situation of dogs of India is still the same & my fear is that it may become worse.

Still caregivers / feeders are being harassed, abused & assaulted & dogs being killed, poisoned & relocated.

India the holy land of Gods & Goddesss was once a heaven for animals. Feeding animals & birds was part of our culture. The rich tradition is still being carried out by the priest of Ram temple in Ayodhya. He feeds hundreds of Monkeys, dogs and cows everyday & none bite or attack anyone. ABC rules were introduced in 2001 but unfortunately it never got implemented rightly. ABC has been successful in Netherlands & Bhutan then why has it failed in India? 23 years gone by and still dog population could not get curtailed except in areas where caregivers were aware & sensible enough to get dogs of their area sterilized.

Crores of rupees spent on ABC & yet results negligible even in big metro cities like Delhi & Mumbai. Why?

No awareness was made about ABC both at govt & non govt level. Many police personnel, corporation commissioners, college principal, govt officials, company CEOs don’t know that dogs cannot be relocated & they can only be sterilized.

No ABC helpline number. Even today no one knows whom to contact if one wants to get a dog sterilized. The funny part is everyone knows whom to call if a dog bites or barks & the ambulance comes rushing to pick the dog up.

Dogs are picked up for sterilization randomly that too mostly on complaints by people of dog bites, dogs barking, dog chasing etc. hence making ABC complaint centric & unsystematic.

Unfortunately ABC became a closed door affair between the corporation & the NGOs without any trasparency & accountability. In many parts of India ABC is not happening & the municipal corporations are either killing dogs or relocating them by dumping them in jungles.

And wherever ABC is happening Dogs are picked like garbage, sterlized & then thrown back. Many get relocated & many die due to infection & open stitches. Few get pregnant even after being picked up for sterilization & their ears notched. Recently a caregiver from Noida ( Delhi NCR) has reported two female dogs getting pregnant twice after being sterlized. The caregiver cannot afford to get the dogs sterlized privately & ABC centre who is officially running ABC has still not given him any help. The dogs will soon deliver babies third time.

The G20 summit held in Delhi has already exposed the ugly face of the municipal corporation of Delhi & the people in animal welfare who were hand in gloves in the sin committed.

Yes India needs strong animal laws but what about the cruelties which are happening on dogs in the name of ABC & that too for the last 23 years? Will the perpetrators ever get exposed & punished?  Probably not because now a new narrative has been created that dogs are ferocious & threat to children & elderly so they better be put in dog pounds.

Hundreds of dogs living in congested markets, temples, railway stations, bus stands etc have never attacked or bitten any child or elderly yet today the indian dogs are being called fericious & a lobby consisting of media, Dog haters &  few corrupt Animal welfare bodies are busy spreading rumours about them.

Even humans if kept hungry, thirsty, beaten & thrown out from their homes will become ferocious then why blame the poor dog?

Pounds means more money for the corrupt stakeholders & more misery for Indian Dogs & their caregivers.

How much more suffering? Haven’t they suffered enough?

I personally have no more hopes from our animal welfare bodies but yes whatever little hope I have is from the Indian Govt & the Judiciary

The pic in this post is of our honorable prime Minister Modi who recently visited Lepcha in Himachal Pradesh and was seen feeding Indian cimmunity dogs.

Indian leaders & citizens are inherently  animal lovers because that’s been their tradition

Let’s hope & pray our Govt & judiciary comes to the rescue of the dogs of India & save them from further torture.

May year 2024 bring justice & solace to Indian dogs who suffered & are still suffering for no fault of theirs
